Job description

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary in-house team made up of chartered surveyors, building surveyors and planners. You will be part of a business which is big enough for a varied range of work and opportunities. However, it is small enough to provide autonomy and a chance to really get to know everyone - expanding your skills and building new connections across the West Midlands, Wales and beyond. Due to continued business growth we have identified a strategic requirement for an additional Rural Chartered Surveyor within our Head Office in Shrewsbury.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated surveyor who is seeking a varied and hands-on role with excellent opportunities for personal and professional development. This role offers exposure to a broad range of surveying disciplines, including rural agency, professional work, valuations, landlord and tenant matters, utilities and infrastructure projects, planning and development, and residential and commercial agency.

The successful candidate will work alongside a young, friendly and supportive team while continuing to play a key role in the firm's ongoing growth and development. This is a full-time, office-based role working 40 hours per week from Roger Parry & Partners’ Head Office in Bicton, Shrewsbury. The successful candidate will work closely with the rural surveying team and wider professional colleagues across the firm.

The Rural Chartered Surveyor will be responsible for delivering a wide range of professional surveying and agency services to the firm's existing client base while helping to develop new business opportunities. This role is intentionally varied and will suit an individual who enjoys working across multiple disciplines within rural practice. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own areas of expertise whilst benefiting from the support and experience of colleagues across the business.

Key responsibilities and operational requirements:
  • Confident in taking charge of a range of rural professional work including valuations, compensation claims, landlord and tenant matters, and rural consultancy.
  • Assist with rural agency instructions including the sale, purchase and letting of farms, land and rural property.
  • Undertake Red Book valuations for secured lending, taxation, probate, matrimonial and other professional purposes.
  • Advise clients on agricultural tenancies, grazing licences, farm business tenancies and other occupation agreements.
  • Assist with utility, infrastructure and compulsory purchase projects on behalf of landowners.
  • Support clients with diversification projects, identifying planning and development opportunities.
  • Attend client meetings, site inspections and professional appointments throughout the region.
  • Liaise with farmers, landowners, solicitors, planners, utility providers, local authorities and other professional advisors.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and help promote the firm's services throughout the region.
  • Support and collaborate with colleagues across the wider business.
  • Manage fee earning work and invoicing in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, industry developments and professional standards.
  • Qualified Chartered Surveyor (MRICS)
  • Knowledge of rural property, agricultural businesses and the wider rural economy.
  • Strong report-writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple instructions and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Commercial awareness and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider professional team.
  • Competence using Microsoft Office and standard professional ICT systems.
  • Ability to work full-time from the firm’s Head Office in Bicton, Shrewsbury.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits/meetings.
  • Experience undertaking RICS Red Book valuations.
  • Ideally an RICS registered valuer.
  • Experience of rural agency and professional work.
  • CAAV-qualified or committed to working towards CAAV membership.
  • Knowledge of agricultural tenancy legislation and landlord and tenant matters.
  • Experience in utility, infrastructure or compensation work.
  • Experience working with farmers, landowners and rural businesses.
  • Knowledge of planning and development opportunities within the rural sector.
  • The role sits within a friendly and supportive team with opportunities to develop within the firm.
  • We will offer an excellent salary for the right candidate reflective of your skills, qualifications and experience.
  • We will pay all the appropriate professional memberships and fund your attendance at relevant CPD events and time off for approved training.
  • We provide an entitlement of 32 days holiday per annum inclusive of bank holidays.
  • Potential for discretionary annual bonus.
  • We provide a workplace pension scheme operated through The National Employment Savings Trust (NEST).
