Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is recruiting a vacant Band 4 Pharmacy Technician position in Stafford. The post involves rotational duties within the pharmacy team and supports the transition to EPMA while delivering high standards of patient care.

You will work as part of a motivated team, handling dispensing, stock control, medicines optimisation, and staff training. A focus on accuracy, teamwork, and adaptability is essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or National BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent nationally recognised qualification plus Accredited underpinning knowledge.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • National Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification or requirement to undertake the training
  • Expert Witness/A1 NVQ Assessor Qualification or willing to undertake
  • Member of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians

Responsibilities

  • Dispensing controlled drugs using electronic registers from automated storage cabinets
  • Providing a theatre CD top up and replenishment service
  • Gaining experience in IT Systems including Ascribe, Automated dispensing (RSUH) & Prescription Tracking
  • Maintaining good stock control of medicines
  • Medicines optimisation on wards
  • Supporting and training staff

Main duties of the job

As one of the team of Rotational Pharmacy Technicians you will have the opportunity to gain experience including the following and much more:

  • Dispensing controlled drugs using electronic registers from automated storage cabinets
  • Providing a theatre CD top up and replenishment service

You must be a team player with the ability to work flexibly and react positively to change. Essential skills include an eye for detail, high level of accuracy and knowing the limitations of the role. You must be able to follow written procedures, work under supervision and complete tasks accurately to set deadlines.

Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or National BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent nationally recognised qualification plus Accredited underpinning knowledge

Experience
  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in either a hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy setting.
  • Commitment and evidence of professional updating and continuous professional development
  • Patient counselling skills – pleasant professional manner; knowledge of use of medicines and advising patients; assessing patient’s pharmaceutical care needs.
  • Supervisory skills to supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Student Pharmacy Technicians
Skills
  • Computer literate with good general keyboard skills for using the pharmacy computer systems, including ordering and receiving stock and rectifying stock discrepancies.
  • Literate and numerate.
  • Evidence of interest in new ways of working and developing specialist knowledge in a clinical area
