Job Description:

We are looking for a Root Cause Business Insight Lead to join Thames Water on a permanent basis.

The purpose of the role is to drive performance and directly impact pollution reduction, one of the top deliverables for Thames Water.

Our environmental performance is monitored and evaluated by our regulators using measures such as compliance with environmental permits and the severity of pollution incidents, which inform our Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA).

Your data insight will enable the environmental delivery team to improve workstreams, define benefits, and report on progress. Accurate reporting is essential for informed decision-making.

36 hours per week, Monday – Friday. This is a hybrid role; travel to Thames Water sites is required, with a car allowance provided.

Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze root causes of pollution incidents, identify patterns and underlying issues using operational data.
  2. Extract insights to recommend operational improvements and pollution reduction strategies.
  3. Enhance team efficiency by automating reporting and maintaining key performance indicators.
  4. Conduct failure analysis and evaluate the effectiveness of solutions through benefit realization reporting.
  5. Collaborate internally and with industry partners to achieve pollution reduction goals.
  6. Liaise with regulators, providing accurate and timely information.
  7. Ensure a data-led approach to reducing pollution incidents within the Environmental Performance team.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Passion for improving environmental performance.
  • Experience in a similar role or industry.
  • Proven ability in root cause analysis.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills, including report writing.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations (e.g., CICS & 16_02).
  • Understanding of waste network and treatment operations.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
  • Project management experience or a track record of delivering projects.
  • Strong skills in Power BI, data visualization, and database management (SQL, Access).
  • Full UK driving license is essential.
  • Degree or higher qualification in environmental science or related field is desirable.

  • Salary between £55,000 and £65,000 depending on experience.
