Job summary

Textron Specialized Vehicles, Ipswich, is seeking a Robotics Engineer to develop and optimise core autonomy algorithms for Jacobsen vehicles, focusing on localisation, navigation and motion planning. You will integrate algorithms into the autonomy stack and work with validation teams to improve field performance.

The role requires five years in robotics, strong C/Python skills, ROS/ROS2 experience, and knowledge of sensor fusion and real-time systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics/Mechatronics or similar.
  • Five+ years of robotics, autonomy, or control systems experience.
  • Experience with localisation, navigation, and motion planning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in C and/or Python; ROS/ROS2 or similar frameworks.
  • Understanding of sensor fusion techniques; Real-time systems experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve localisation algorithms with sensor fusion (RTK GPS, IMU, LiDAR, camera).
  • Design and implement navigation and path planning algorithms; optimise route coverage.
  • Develop and optimise motion planning and trajectory generation for better turns and smoothness.
  • Implement and tune algorithms such as A, Hybrid A, DWA, MPC.
  • Integrate algorithms into the autonomy stack (ROS2 or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with Test & Validation to analyse field data and improve performance.
  • Support validation using simulation and digital twins.
