Job summary

Octane Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to join a national breakdown company. The role is Harrogate-based, permanent and full-time, with earnings from £36,400 base and OTE in excess of £60,000 including overtime.

Typical schedule is 40 hours per week across 6am–12am, with overtime at x1.5 or fixed overtime at £30/hour. Benefits include pension, life cover, training, and car salary sacrifice after 12 months.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally Level 3 (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles in workshop or mobile role.
• Customer-focused approach.
• Must hold a full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.
