Job summary

RAC is hiring a Roadside Technician to deliver expert mechanical roadside repairs, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. You will stay calm under pressure, engage with members, and use a diagnostic kit to fix faults on the spot.

You’ll start and finish from home, covering local clusters in Reading and Oxford areas, with RAC providing a van, fuel card, uniform and tools. A UK driving licence with few points is required and previous roadside experience is valued.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance with 2+ years' experience
• or 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

Where you'll work

You'll be part of the Reading cluster, covering areas like Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames, Crowthorne, Sandhurst.

You'll be part of the Oxford cluster, covering areas like Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Bicester, Thame. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you'll need

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experienceor5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you'll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it's a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you'll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You'll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We'll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
