Job summary

RAC Motoring Services is seeking a Nights Roadside Technician based in Reading/Oxford to perform roadside repairs, diagnostics and emergency support. You will start and end your day at home, using your RAC van, fuel card and diagnostic kit to get members back on the road.

The role requires a relevant NVQ or substantial roadside experience, plus a clean driving licence. Competitive base salary (£42,921.87) with an average OTE (£43k–£53k) and generous benefits are offered.

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent with 2+ years experience, or 5+ years as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Reading cluster, covering areas like Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames, Crowthorne, Sandhurst. You’ll be part of the Oxford cluster, covering areas like Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Bicester, Thame. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need

• Either: NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience or 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside — combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service. We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
