Job summary

Roadside Technician (Field based) in Sunderland is a permanent/full-time position with a national breakdown company. The role offers a strong salary package including base pay, bonus, overtime, and a company van with fuel card. OTE exceeds £57k, potentially £70–80k.

Shift pattern is 40 hours per week, Mon-Sun, varied hours (6am–2am) with rest and recovery; overtime and benefits are included, along with extensive training and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles.
• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 5 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

Monday - Sunday, 40 hours per week averaged over the year, between 6am and 2am, occasional overnight stay. Rest and recovery provided (11 hours of rest between shifts & a minimum of 2 days off every fortnight) (could be 9am - 5pm or 11am - 7pm etc, shifts vary. Shift hours may be reduced or withdrawn with a day's notice, so it's important that you can be adaptable. Shifts may start early, finish late, or fall on any day of the week. What you'll need to a be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum of a Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance and repair, ideally Level 3 but will consider level 2. (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent)
• Must have a minimum 2-year post-qualification hands on experience with vehicles. Either in a workshop or mobile vehicle type role.
