Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to provide roadside assistance for a national breakdown company. The Ayr-based role offers a 40-hour week across a 6am–12am window, with overtime and a clear progression path.

You will diagnose faults, perform roadside repairs, and advise on next steps while maintaining safety in varied conditions. Generous overtime, bonuses, and benefits accompany a strong earning potential.

Qualifications

• Must have the right to work in the UK.
• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

What you'll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have the right to work in the UK.
• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.

• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.
