Job summary

Octane Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to join a national breakdown service in the Barnet area, handling roadside faults and delivering on-the-spot repairs. The role is permanent and full-time with a 40-hour week and advance shift planning.

Eligible candidates will have Level 2 (ideally Level 3) in light vehicle maintenance, a valid UK driving licence, and at least two years of hands-on vehicle experience. Overtime and benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Level 3 qualification preferred (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience with vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out roadside mechanical and electrical repairs, including battery changes and wheel changes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and propose repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible to restore mobility.
• Advise members on next steps and recovery if needed.

Pay / salary: £41,600 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £66,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

Job Responsibilities for the Roadside Technician role

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.

• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

What you’ll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer-focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.
