Job summary

Octane Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) in Brighton to join a nationwide breakdown service. You will attend breakdowns, diagnose faults, and carry out on-site repairs to restore mobility for members.

The role is permanent/full-time with 40 hours weekly, Monday to Sunday, with paid overtime and generous benefits. A UK driving licence is essential and candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair (Level 3 preferred).
• Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience with vehicles.
• Full UK driving licence with max 6 points; no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery replacements, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Job description

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Location: Brighton

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

What you’ll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification hands‑on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer‑focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.
