Job summary

WR Logistics in Leeds is seeking an experienced Road Freight Operator to manage Import and Export shipments from start to finish. You will work closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and accurately.

This permanent role offers a Monday–Friday schedule, 35 hours per week, a competitive salary up to £35,000, and a path to take on additional senior responsibilities within a supportive team. Training and an induction program are provided.

Qualifications

• Solid experience within freight forwarding, ideally road freight operations.
• Proven ability to manage imports/exports and documentation.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Good IT skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proactive approach and willingness to take on senior responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Managing road freight Import and Export shipments from start to finish.
• Preparing freight quotations and calculating costs.
• Building jobs and completing relevant customs entries.
• Liaising with customers, suppliers and overseas partners.
• Preparing and checking shipping and customs documentation.
• Handling invoicing and associated administration.
• Monitoring shipments and resolving operational issues.
• Maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships.
• Supporting and mentoring more junior colleagues.
• Managing your own workload while contributing to the wider Operations team.

Road Freight Operator

Leeds | Up to £35,000 | Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm | Permanent

My client is an established, privately owned freight forwarding business with a long-standing presence in the Leeds market and a strong customer base across the UK.

Due to continued requirements within their Operations team, they are now looking for an experienced Road Freight Operator to join their Import & Export department.

This is a varied role suited to an experienced freight forwarding professional who enjoys managing shipments from start to finish, building strong customer relationships and taking on additional responsibility within a close-knit team.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Import and Export shipments, working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and accurately.

About You

The successful candidate will have solid experience within freight forwarding, ideally with a strong background in road freight operations and Import/Export.

We're looking for someone with:

• You will be confident dealing directly with customers and suppliers and comfortable managing multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
• Proven freight forwarding / road freight operations experience
• Good knowledge of Import and Export procedures
• Experience with customs documentation and entries
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Good IT skills and attention to detail
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A proactive approach and willingness to support junior colleagues
