About the business unit

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operates in: Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation, Education, Health and Care.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

Our industry-leading specialist advisory teams offer a range of transformational services that support our core project, programme, and commercial offering, as well as supporting our clients in addressing their business needs. These include climate change, estimating and cost intelligence, health, safety and wellbeing, land advisory, planning PMO, quality management and risk management.

The Role:

Are you passionate about navigating the complexities of large-scale infrastructure projects and ensuring their success? Join our team at Mott MacDonald, where we are seeking an established Risk Manager to spearhead risk assessment and mitigation strategies. In this dynamic role, you'll play a pivotal part in shaping the landscape of some of the most exciting projects in the UK.

What you will contribute to the team:

  1. Undertake assurance reviews of risk deliverables and methodologies to confirm conformance to best practice.
  2. Experience informing the development of Business Cases, Investment Decisions and Appraisals, including assuring the quality of risk evidence.
  3. Comfortable working as a consultant within a client environment, including embedding expertise into their teams.
  4. Coach, develop and supervise project staff and share knowledge and expertise.
  5. Ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams and stakeholders.

Required for the position of Risk Manager:

Due to a large pipeline of work in the Specialist portfolio, it is essential that applicants in this role have a proven track record working as a Risk Manager in an engineering environment. This can be working with a client, consultancy, or contractor in sectors such as highways, defence, energy, rail, aviation, water, environmental, oil, nuclear, and similar industries which see professionals working on construction projects.

  1. Proven track record in risk management on large-scale construction projects in either Defence, Nuclear, Energy, Water, Transport, Environment, Buildings, Aviation, Oil or similar industries.
  2. Ability to operate both autonomously and as part of a larger team.
  3. Flexibility to travel and work in different sectors and clients.
  4. Educated to degree level in risk, project management, engineering, mathematics or related disciplines.
  5. Professional Membership with an applicable professional organisation.
  6. Full UK Driving Licence.

Preferred, but not required:

  1. Good research and analytical skills.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication and organisation skills.
  3. Essential soft skills include effective listening, persuasion, collaborative style, leadership, flexibility, self-motivation, creativity and insightfulness.
  4. Computer literacy in Microsoft applications.
