Job summary

Twynham Learning is seeking a Risk & Compliance Manager to strengthen governance and drive robust risk management across our multi-academy trust in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area. The role works with central teams and school leaders to identify, assess, and mitigate risk and informs strategic decisions.

The post focuses on risk registers, horizon scanning, regulatory compliance, and data protection coordination, with emphasis on safeguarding and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in risk management, insights/analytics, compliance, or governance in education.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and the Academy Trust Handbook.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on risk management, maintain risk register, facilitate reviews, and horizon scan for risks.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Prepare risk and insight reports for trust leaders and governance functions.
  • Collaborate with Data Protection Officer on data protection arrangements.
  • Support business continuity planning.
  • Promote safeguarding and child protection across the trust.

Job description

22.5 hours per week, worked over 3 days per week. For example, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8.30am-4.30pm, although there is some flexibility for a work pattern which suits the successful candidate to be agreed.

About the Post

We are looking to appoint a Risk & Compliance Manager to join Twynham Learning multi-academy trust.

The Risk & Compliance Manager plays a critical role in supporting robust governance and operational excellence across the trust. This role leads the development and implementation of our risk management procedures and processes and high‑quality reporting.

This post is based in our Core Services “Head Office” team, working alongside friendly and professional operations colleagues who specialise Estates, Finance, Governance, HR and IT and informing strategic decision‑making by the Trust Executive Team, Trustees, and School Committees. Working collaboratively with schools, central teams, and senior leaders to ensure risks are identified early, rigorously assessed, and effectively mitigated—supporting safe, high‑performing, and compliant academies.

Our trust comprises three secondary schools, five primary schools and an initial teacher training provision, all based in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole conurbation. We are a strong, stable trust with a well-embedded compliance culture.

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Lead on risk management, including managing our risk register, facilitating risk reviews and workshops, horizon scanning for potential risk events and supporting in emergencies
  • Monitoring compliance in respect of our statutory and regulatory responsibilities
  • Preparing risk and insight reports for trust leaders and governance functions
  • Work closely with our outsourced Data Protection Officer on trust-wide data protection arrangements
  • Support business continuity planning
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • have experience in risk management, insights/analytics, compliance, or school/education governance
  • have GCSEs in Maths and English, grade 5/grade C and above or equivalent qualifications/grades
  • have a strong understanding of the Academy Trust Handbook and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • have strong analytical capability, with experience using data tools such as Power BI, Excel, or MIS/finance systems
  • have excellent communication skills with the ability to work with school and trust leaders and an ability to challenge constructively
  • can manage multiple priorities across diverse stakeholders
  • highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
  • proactive and solutions driven, with the confidence to work independently.
  • have strong judgement and an ethical approach
  • can foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
