Job description

Risk and Safety Compliance Advisor (Hiring Immediately), Preston, Lancashire

This role involves nationwide travel and is based in Preston, Lancashire. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy for Smiths News, as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.

The position includes managing ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems, acting as the Subject Matter Expert on health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture, particularly concerning road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.

The role entails ownership of health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place. The candidate will deliver Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs and foster positive safety behaviors through a just safety culture.

The advisor will lead relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in health and safety compliance, including regulatory bodies and trade associations. They will also oversee incident investigations, liaising with emergency services and media as necessary.

About You

• At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental risk qualifications
• Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
