About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Serving as the Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and properly managed.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety and Risk to promote and embed positive safety behaviors and culture.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in health and safety compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations).
• Ensuring all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained competent colleagues, with escalation according to severity, and liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media when necessary.

About you

• Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental Risk qualifications
• Extensive Accident Investigation experience including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
