About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture at Smiths News, including road transport and operational yard safety at company and third-party locations.
• Owning company health and safety policies, training programs, and audit regimes, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
• Maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance, such as HSE, DVSA, local authorities, and trade bodies.
• Ensuring incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation as necessary, and liaising with external agencies like emergency services and media.

• Nebosh Level 3 qualification or equivalent
• Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental risk management qualifications
• Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
