About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Acting as Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to embed positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
• Leading relationships and dialogue with stakeholders such as the HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, and Trade Bodies from a safety perspective.
• Investigating incidents and accidents with trained colleagues, escalating as necessary, and liaising with external stakeholders like emergency services and media.

About you

• At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
• Auditing qualifications and experience
• Environmental Risk qualifications
• Extensive accident investigation experience including root cause analysis
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
