Risk and Safety Compliance Advisor (Hiring Immediately), Cambridge

This role involves nationwide travel and is based at Smiths News, the UK's largest news wholesaler.

About the role

• Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
• Implementing ISO-certified safety and environmental management systems.
• Acting as the Subject Matter Expert on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
• Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place.
• Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to foster positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
• Maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance, such as HSE, DVSA, and trade bodies.
• Investigating incidents and accidents with trained colleagues, escalating severity as needed, and liaising with emergency services and media.

About you

• Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
• Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems.
• Auditing qualifications and experience.
• Environmental Risk qualifications.
• Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis.
• Effective communication skills and ability to negotiate at senior levels.
• A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided).
