Job summary

The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon is seeking a Rigging and Lifting Supervisor to oversee lifting operations across venues. You will lead the team, interpret technical drawings and ensure safe, compliant practices in a fast-paced theatre environment.

This full-time, permanent role reports to the Head of Automation and Rigging, with a 44-hour week across 6 days, including some Sundays, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • NRC Level 3 accreditation required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation including LOLER and PUWER.
  • Proven leadership experience and the ability to influence colleagues.
  • Training and experience in inspecting, maintaining and managing rigging equipment and accessories.
  • Working at Height and MEWP training with rescue planning experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and translate designs into safe rigging solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Drawing Office and Production Managers to develop lifting plans, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Lead rigging and de-rigging of lifting equipment for fit-ups, get-outs and non-performance events.
  • Advise on rigging and lifting operations, ensuring correct equipment selection and preparation.
  • Develop and implement Working at Height policies and safe systems of work.
  • Manage procurement, maintenance and inspection of rigging equipment and stock.
  • Lead operational reviews and embed learning and best practices.

Job description

Are you an NRC Level 3 accredited rigger with a passion for safety, precision and problem-solving? Do you thrive in fast-paced live performance environments and have the expertise to lead complex lifting operations from concept to completion? Can you interpret technical drawings, develop safe systems of work, and inspire confidence in colleagues working at height?

We are looking for a Rigging and Lifting Supervisor to support rigging and lifting operations across all performance venues and other spaces, strengthening organisational capability, consistency, and compliance.

In this newly created, specialist, role you will ensure that rigging and lifting operations are planned, delivered and reviewed to the highest professional standards. Through expert leadership, collaboration and technical oversight, you will help improve operational efficiency, strengthen safety culture and support the successful delivery of world-class theatre productions.

You will be joining a small, supportive team who are highly experienced and established in what they do. The team work collaboratively in a busy and fast paced environment.

Reporting to the Head of Automation and Rigging, key areas of responsibility include (please see the Role Profile for the comprehensive list):

  • Collaborating with the Drawing Office and Production Managers to develop lifting plans, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Leading the rigging and de-rigging of lifting equipment for fit-ups, get-outs and non-performance events.
  • Supporting and advising on all rigging and lifting operations, ensuring the correct selection and preparation of equipment.
  • Developing and influencing the Working at Height policy and procedures, implementing safe and effective systems of work.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following:

  • NRC Level 3 accreditation

  • Training and experience of inspecting, maintaining and managing rigging equipment and accessories.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Stratford-upon-Avon. You will be working 44 hours per week, 6 days out of 7 with some Sunday's included.
