A supportive care service seeks a compassionate Support Worker in Mickleham to assist an elderly gentleman recovering from a stroke. The role involves providing companionship, engaging in conversations, and assisting with day-to-day tasks on Saturdays. The ideal candidate must be a confident driver and possess experience working with adults having additional needs. A positive, patient attitude is essential, making this a fulfilling role in a warm environment that offers inspiring moments with a remarkable client.
An exceptional part-time opportunity for a compassionate and professional Support Worker to provide companionship to a warm and engaging older gentleman, recovering from a stroke and experiencing delusions and memory challenges. £25.00 Gross Per Hour.
Archie is an older gentleman who lives with his partner, Anna, in their beautiful Surrey home. He is a fascinating individual with a long and accomplished career in the music industry and enjoys sharing stories from that vibrant chapter of his life. He enjoys a wide range of TV, including sports, Formula 1, American football, nature programmes, music documentaries, concerts, gardening shows, and the occasional film. He also takes pleasure in spending time in his beautifully maintained garden. In March 2025, Archie experienced a haemorrhagic stroke and now has severe short-term memory impairment and signs consistent with vascular dementia. He experiences persistent delusions, variable confusion, and insomnia, and struggles with tasks such as processing written information, cooking meals (though he can prepare simple snacks), using TV remotes, and keeping track of keys, phone, chargers, and other items. He can receive calls but cannot make them or manage appointments, and is unable to drive, so needs a driver for outings. This role focuses on providing thoughtful companionship and gentle support. Archie enjoys having someone with him while watching TV, listening to his memories, and going on regular drives and outings.
Archie and Anna are looking for a professional Support Worker to assist Archie on Saturdays. The role requires a confident driver, as Archie enjoys daily outings by car to places such as garden centres, shopping, trips to London and occasionally attending medical appointments. Archie is an independent man who values respectful, tactful, and empathetic interaction. Patience and strong listening skills are essential; he has many captivating stories from his time in the music business. While physical assistance isn’t necessary, Archie would appreciate help with small tasks like making tea, snacks, lunches and dinners, and locating items such as keys, remote controls, chargers, and other electronics. This position is primarily about gentle, thoughtful support, and requires someone who can balance being attentive with giving Archie space. The ideal candidate will know when to step in and when to hold back, while remaining calm and professional if Archie expresses frustration.
This role is best suited to someone with a positive attitude and a calm, patient, and empathetic nature, who remains composed under pressure and can respond steadily to the client’s needs. Being able to balance being attentive whilst giving Archie space, remaining professional if he becomes frustrated or confused, and providing practical support where needed with day‑to‑day tasks and companionship. Prior experience with dementia is helpful but not essential, what matters most is a willingness to learn on the job, combined with a genuinely helpful and empathetic attitude.
Working with Archie and hearing his remarkable stories will be truly inspiring. Set in a stunning home and surrounded by a picturesque local area, this role offers an exceptional working environment. The successful candidate will step into a fantastic opportunity filled with charm and connection.
