Reward, Benefits and Cost Control Director

Leading all aspects of Reward, Benefits and Cost Controlling for L'Oréal in the UK & Ireland, you will partner with the senior leadership team, finance and external suppliers to drive the Rewards agenda for the L'Oréal UKI community of approximately 3000 employees, across our 4 product divisions, corporate functions and our retail population.

You will be responsible for the overall Rewards (compensation and benefits) offering for our UKI employees, You will own the rewards strategy and you will oversee a team who manage role grading, core annual cycles such as salary review, living wage reporting, audits and external benchmarking. Your team will drive innovative solutions in our benefits offering and design and implement sustainable frameworks for new and emerging roles and capabilities as well as for acquired businesses based in the region. You will also oversee a team who manage the cost controlling process for the UK & Ireland business, ensuring smooth operations and cost management across the team.

a Day In The Life

  • Provide strategic advice and support to leaders across the business on reward & benefits topics.
  • Ensure our reward frameworks are managed consistently, in accordance with best practice, and legal, regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Lead our market benchmarking process across the UKI to ensure we continue to offer competitive and relevant reward and benefits and are proactive in identifying and responding to emerging market trends.
  • Oversee the administration of all our reward programmes, including our annual pay review cycle, benefits enrolment window and our various incentive programmes, whilst providing insight into best practice for all elements of the reward lifecycle.
  • Ensure that all programmes comply with regulatory and legal requirements, including the timely and accurate submission of pay gap and other statutory reporting elements.
  • Closely collaborate with other HR specialists to ensure our offering is aligned to our employee value proposition and supports career growth
  • Support in the preparation of meetings with the Executive Leadership team and the board, ensuring all requirements and management information is provided.
  • Own the annual salary review process for the UKI, in close collaboration with executive leadership, finance and HR teams to achieve the budget.
  • Lead on the controlling and forecasting all ‘people’ costs such as fixed and variable pay, pension, social charges, ex-patriates etc.
  • Supporting the HR and Finance directors to control and report all costs associated with the HR budget
  • Leading the cost control team to work with the HRDs to manage the Headcount and payroll cost across the business, rationalising any variance in respect of costs and headcount
  • Mange the annual benefits cycle. Work closely with the providers to enhance engagement and participation, develop new and interesting voluntary benefits by working closely with providers.
  • Manage group insurances, working closely with the brokers/intermediaries to secure the best deal for Life, Income Protection and Private Medical insurances
  • Ensure administration is accurate and efficient and budget variances are well managed
  • Design and deliver employee communications on this topic
  • Implementing and adhering to the Group’s internal controls
  • Supporting the HR team with Group audits
  • Manage and coach a team of 7 across Reward and Cost Control.

Who You Are

  • You have built your extensive reward and benefits knowledge / experience within an in-house role
  • Track record of compiling and presenting data and insights – in particular reward modelling, job architecture, and benefits brokering.
  • Experience of managing, leading, empowering and motivating teams
  • Cost control experience is not required but you should be a proven manager of budgets and have a strong sense of financial discipline
  • You have a strong customer focus and employee experience approach e.g. always looking for improvements, better ways of working.
  • You take a proactive, ‘can do’ approach to your work, demonstrating tenacity in resolving issues or finding ways around a blockage.
  • Excellent data analysis and communications skills.
  • Able to influence, negotiate and manage demonstrating credibility and respect.
  • Understand people resource requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of current industry best practice in Reward.
