Job summary

SUEZ in Newquay is seeking a shop operative to run the re-use shop at the HWRC. You will stock, price and present donations, ensuring items are ready for sale and customer friendly.

You will manage stock, operate the cash register, handle cash and card receipts, and work with the re-use manager to keep the shop efficient and profitable while promoting the charitable nature of the scheme.

What will I be doing?

Through our waste contract with Cornwall SUEZ has made a commitment to set upre-use shops on our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC's) to resell donated items.

As a shop operative you will bein charge of the daily running of ourre-use shop, based at Newquay HWRC, liaisingwith the re-use manager to make sure the shop is fullystocked and thateverything is properly stored or madeready for sale.

This will involve you:

• Merchandisingstock, organising, preparing, pricingand presenting donations for sale,to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Manage stock and communicate to the re-use manager what stock the shop needs delivering.
• Operate the cash register, counting /reconcilingcash and credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds
• Ensure goods are sold at appropriate value and all rejected items are disposed of appropriately.
• Make certain that collections and deliveries are arranged in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Maintain the security of the shop premises, stock and cash.
• You’ll be expected to promote the values of the shop andthe charitable nature of the re-use scheme.
• At the same time as providing excellent customer experienceto encourage repeat custom andthe smooth and profitable running of the shop.

What are the requirements?

• You will be passionate about the environment and in particularthis re-use project, with prior retail experience and a real enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.
• Either you will have knowledge of recycling and upcycling, or willing to rapidly develop it, but you should have an understanding of maintaining stock, merchandising and the ability to handlefinancial aspects of retail, along with:
• A flexible attitude to work as shift work and weekend work will be required.
• The confidence toinitially work alone in the re-use shop (until volunteers are recruited).
• Excellent teamwork skills as you will also work closely with site staff on the HWRCs.
• While mainly a re-use shop role when not required in the re-use shop you will be a part of the site operative team at the HWRC.
