National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty is seeking a Retail Team Member for the Birling Gap shop. The role involves helping visitors, providing excellent service, and presenting displays in a rural location within the South Downs at Birling Gap, East Dean.

The position is fixed-term for 6 months on a zero-hour contract with 1-2 days per week, 9:00–17:30. An online assessment will be used instead of CV submission.

Job description

We’re looking for a Retail Team Member to welcome visitors to the National Trust shop at Birling Gap, to answer their questions and help them make the most of their day. This location is in a rural area, so please think about how you'd would get here for work, before applying for the job.

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Contract/duration: Fixed term for6 Months

Contract type: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can't guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We'll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays but does not require evenings or split shifts. Normal pattern would be 1-2 days per week, must be available weekdays.

Hours/working pattern 1-2 days per week between the hours of 9-5.30

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

As a member of the retail team, you’ll be offering visitors help and advice with their shopping. You’ll have high standards of presentation in the shop while providing excellent service to all customers.

You’ll also be able to talk to them about how everything they buy helps to fund the work of the National Trust. Other duties may include arranging, receiving and unpacking deliveries, creating shop displays and working with others in the team to keep the shop floor clean and organised.
