An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Band 6 Nurse to work on the new Respiratory SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) adjacent to C9's Acute Respiratory Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. C9 is one of the new wards in the Louisa Martindale Building, offering state-of-the-art facilities and fantastic views.
The role involves developing pathways and processes for the new SDEC, as well as working clinically in the area supporting clinicians and Respiratory Nurse Specialists. The SDEC includes admission avoidance, early supported discharges, and ambulatory assessment/procedures.
The Respiratory SDEC opened in October 2023 and operates Monday to Friday, 0800-1800, with times subject to change as the service develops.
Although the ward and SDEC are separate, support for the ward may be required in exceptional circumstances.
We welcome applications from those with a UK NMC registration. Overseas nurses requiring sponsorship are not currently eligible for this role.
The successful candidate will have excellent clinical and interpersonal skills, ensuring patients and relatives are well-informed, and supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges, often liaising with external teams. They will work alongside medical teams and Clinical Nurse Specialists to ensure smooth operation and provide excellent patient care.
The candidate will promote collaborative, open, and honest communication across all groups, serve as a role model and mentor, and uphold Trust values. They will participate in continuous improvement and education, champion Trust policies, and engage in clinical audits to ensure safe practice.
