Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Band 6 Nurse to work on the new Respiratory SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) which operates adjacent to C9’s Acute Respiratory Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. C9 is one of the new wards in the Louisa Martindale Building which offers state of the art facilities and fantastic views.

The role will involve helping the team develop pathways and processes for the new SDEC as well as working clinically in the area supporting the Clinicians and Respiratory Nurse Specialists. The SDEC will include admission avoidance, early supported discharges and ambulatory assessment/procedures.

The new Respiratory SDEC opened its doors in October 2023 and currently operates Monday to Friday 0800-1800, however, start and finish times may change as the service progresses.

Although the ward and SDEC are separate areas, there may be a requirement to provide support for the ward in exceptional circumstances.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

The successful candidate will support a collaborative, open and honest communication style across all groups of people whether that be staff, patients, relatives or visiting teams.

The successful candidate will work alongside staff as a role model and mentor. With exemplary leadership skills and adherence to Trust values, the successful candidate will ensure that the ward actively participates in continuous improvement and education both professionally and personally.
