Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in our Upper GI Cancer team. This position is Maternity Leave cover from September 2024 to July 2025.

Candidates should be forward-thinking, possess good clinical and assessment skills, and understand the National Optimal Pathways for Upper GI Cancers.

The post holder must demonstrate excellent communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to deliver compassionate care in a complex environment. A commitment to person-centred care is essential.

You should have ongoing professional development and an understanding of the impact of cancer on patients and their families.

If you are dedicated to improving the patient experience during their cancer journey and motivated to advance your career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, this role offers the opportunity to develop your specialist skills and enhance job satisfaction.

Upper GI experience is desirable, along with education to degree level or working towards a degree. Expressions of interest from those involved in community care for cancer patients will also be considered.

Main duties of the job
  1. Maintain high standards of professional practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care and experience.
  2. Provide specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills, and experience.
  3. Support the Team Leader in productivity and financial management of the clinical area.
  4. Lead by example.
  5. Ensure delivery of high-quality clinical services and compliance with requirements such as CQC and contractual obligations.
  6. Exercise effective leadership.
  7. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including complex cases requiring high-level analysis and interpretation.
  8. Develop and evaluate treatment, action, and discharge plans.
  9. Train and develop staff reporting to or under your responsibility.
