Job description

Fulbridge Social Care are recruiting for full-time Children's Residential Workers for a Private Children’s Residential Care Home in Hinckley.

You will be working within a specialist unit that supports young people aged between 13 and 17 with challenging behaviour and complex needs such as autism, eating disorders, sexualised behaviour, self-harm, aggressive personality and addiction. You must understand the complexities of challenging behaviour and have experience working or interacting with young people with complex needs.

Candidates must be confident, self-aware, interactive, and knowledgeable about the reasons why young people are in care and understand the challenges faced on a regular basis when working within a children’s residential setting.

We are looking for ambitious individuals who have aspirations to succeed within this role and make a positive impact on a young person’s life both short-term and long-term.

A driving license is required for this position as you will be required to drive the on-site vehicle to take the service users to social activities and family contacts. An enhanced DBS must be obtained, which is paid by the employer unless you are registered on the government’s online status checks.

Applicants will be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 Diploma in Working with Children and Young People (or equivalent) or have experience working with young people or challenging behaviour and complex needs.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old to work within this unit because of the age of the young people within our client's home, due to the nature of the role and the sector. Therefore, these positions are exempt from the employment equality (age) regulation set out in 2006.

Main duties and responsibilities:
  1. Build strong professional relationships with the service users and other members of staff.
  2. Maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for the young people to live and for you to work.
  3. Keep up to date with all communication/information systems.
  4. Attend and take an active part in meetings as appropriate.
  5. Support young people in managing their own behaviour using approved skills.
  6. Promote equality, acknowledging individual differences.
  7. Protect service users from any form of abuse from staff, visitors or service users.
  8. Write accurate reports for reviews and keep written records for monitoring purposes.
  9. Attend all training as required and be prepared to achieve qualifications appropriate to the role.
  10. Attend work reliably and punctually and follow a set shift pattern.
  11. Keep yourself up to date with all procedures and policy changes.
  12. Take responsible care for the health and safety of yourself and others.
  13. Undertake any other additional duties as required, which are relevant to the post.
Person Specification:
  1. Ability to form professional relationships with young people.
  2. Ability to read and understand written work and to write clear and accurate reports.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and easily with young people in a variety of ways.
  4. Ability to go wherever service users want to go and participate in all activities.
  5. Ability to work as directed and complete tasks reliably and to a high standard.
  6. Ability to participate in training and development.
  7. Ability to follow a work pattern and to attend work punctually and reliably.
  8. Awareness of what effective teamwork is.
  9. Awareness of the general health, safety and welfare of young people.
  10. Awareness of how young people develop and learn.
  11. Awareness of equal opportunities and discrimination and how it can be prevented.
Shift Patterns:

8am – 11pm + sleep x12 a month.

Successful candidates will be required to undertake a detailed induction programme and obtain an updated DBS (cost met by employer).
