Job: Residential Support Worker Location: Johnstone House Reports To: Team Leader
Shifts: 10am-10pm - Full time 40 hours per week
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide care and control of young people to a standard aligned with good parenting. Ensure a safe, caring, and supportive environment that encourages growth, independence, and well-being. Act as a positive role model, setting clear boundaries and supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes.
- To nurture positive outcomes for young people through personal development and mentorship. Engage and mentor young people, inspiring them to take responsibility and build trust. Provide tailored support, recognising and responding to individual needs while fostering emotional, social, and educational growth.
- To be an effective and collaborative member of the residential team. Work closely with staff, managers, and external professionals to deliver high-quality care. Maintain and adhere to policies, procedures, and safeguarding practices consistently.
KEY TASKS
In Support of Key Responsibility 1:
- Provide day-to-day care and control: Supervise daily routines and recreational activities, create stimulating environments, and attend to specific childcare tasks, including cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the home’s upkeep.
- Monitor and log activities: Complete accurate daily logs, handover notes, and other relevant administrative work. File incident and accident reports promptly.
- Actively safeguard: Adhere to safeguarding protocols and seek guidance from managers or senior staff when needed.
- Act as an advisor: Guide young people to develop personal hygiene skills, take ownership of their living spaces, and practice acceptable social conduct.
- Support health needs: Care for young people during illness and distress, recognising their emotional and physical needs. Trauma-informed care and behaviour management, while collaborating with team leaders to develop and oversee care plans, progress charts, and review placements in liaison with external agencies.
In Support of Key Responsibility 3:
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with colleagues to support team members, share knowledge and experiences, and contribute to a positive environment focused on achieving collective goals.
- Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality, ensuring all sensitive information related to young people and the organization remains protected at all times.
- Adherence to Policies: Be familiar with and follow organizational policies and procedures related to childcare and residential operations, maintaining consistency in actions and decisions.
GENERAL:
- Attend regular team meetings and staff training sessions as required.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe and pleasant living and working environment.
- Comply with all Health and Safety regulations connected to the residential home and its surroundings.
- Work shifts as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the service's operational needs.
- Undertake any other tasks aligned with the organisation’s objectives as reasonably requested by line management.
- Demonstrate a duty of care by promoting the welfare of children and adhering to all relevant safeguarding practices.

In Support of Key Responsibility 2:
- Mentorship: Use personal experiences to guide young people in managing their behavior, building resilience, achieving independence, and actively mentor them to understand their personal strengths and challenges.
- Regular training: Participate in and complete required training as specified in the induction program and personal development plan.
- Assist in transition planning and reviews: Undertake all required training according to the induction program and personal development plan to ensure professional growth in areas.
