Job summary

The Deaf Academy in Exmouth is seeking Residential Care Workers to support young people aged 9–25 in a welcoming, coastal setting. You will help develop independent living skills, arrange social activities from beach trips to cinema visits, and contribute to a positive, inclusive culture.

Training is provided, including British Sign Language (BSL), with sponsorship for a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare. Term-time pattern with training days included.

• Ability to use own initiative and exercise sound judgement essential
• Discretion, patience and a sense of humour essential
• A commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and to following the Academy safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures essential
• A commitment to promoting positive attitudes towards Deaf children. essential
• Ability to form good working relationships and to work as part of a professional team, including with other professionals from outside of the Academy. essential
• Ability to support the personal care needs of students whilst maintaining their respect and dignity essential

Responsibilities

• Support the young people living in the Academy to develop independence and life skills.
• Plan and organise social activities in the local community and beyond.
• Assist with personal care needs while respecting dignity and privacy.
• Work as part of a team to deliver a positive, inclusive learning and living environment.
• Engage with safeguarding policies and promote positive attitudes towards Deaf students.
