Job summary

The Deaf Academy in Exmouth is seeking Residential Care Workers to support deaf young people aged 9–25 in our Academy Residential Home and flats, helping them build independence and social skills.

You’ll plan activities, accompany trips to the beach and cinema, and receive full training including BSL; salary starts at £25,692 with progression to higher pay, term-time schedule plus training days.

Qualifications

• Ability to use own initiative and exercise sound judgement essential

• A commitment to promoting positive attitudes towards Deaf children. essential
• A commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and to following the Academy safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures essential
• Ability to form good working relationships and to work as part of a professional team, including with other professionals from outside of the Academy. essential
• Ability to support the personal care needs of students whilst maintaining their respect and dignity essential

Responsibilities

• Plan and organise social activities locally and further afield.
• Support our young people who live in our Academy Residential Home to develop independent living skills.
• Organise social activities in the local community, trips to the beach, cinema or bowling, and trips further afield.
• Participate in two-week rotas including weekends, sleep-ins, and term-time patterns.
• Work within a large team and access fully funded BSL training and in-house lessons.
