Job summary

Compass Group UK&I in Central London is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to become the resident engineer on a flagship contract. You will own the building’s critical M&E systems, ensuring safety, compliance and exceptional environment for clients and users.

You will manage day-to-day operations, perform both planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose faults, and coordinate subcontractors while maintaining compliance records and delivering project work as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering through a recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
• Experience in commercial buildings, facilities management or building services environments.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience delivering both planned and reactive maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Strong customer-focused communication.
• 18th Edition qualification would be advantageous for electrically biased candidates.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for day-to-day operation and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems on site.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair faults across electrical, HVAC, lighting, power, water and building services systems.
• Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and compliance.
• Escort and manage specialist subcontractors performing maintenance and repair activities.
• Maintain all statutory compliance records, maintenance documentation and asset information.
• Build strong relationships with the client, acting as a trusted on-site technical advisor.
• Support the delivery of minor project works, upgrades and installations.
• Ensure all activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with health & safety legislation.
