Job summary

Environment Agency seeks an experienced and inspirational leader to head the Reservoir Regulation team. You will lead regulation across England, driving compliance with the Reservoirs Act for public safety and strengthening stakeholder collaboration.

You will steer a national, dispersed team of professionals within the Environmental Assessment & Reservoir Regulation (EARR) Department, fostering a high‑performance culture, psychological safety and innovative approaches to regulatory delivery.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in Regulation, Civil Engineering, Law or similar and relevant subject to Reservoir Regulation.
• Strategic leadership with proven delivery of operational outcomes.
• Experience driving high performance and fostering psychological safety.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and external partners.
• Experience in change management and regulatory reform programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead proactive stakeholder management to build trust and collaboration.
• Set strategic priorities aligned to EA Regulatory strategy and deliver efficiently.
• Develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
• Foster psychological safety and empower decisive action.
• Manage complex risk and ensure public safety to the highest standard.
• Contribute to Reservoir Safety Reform Programme with senior input.
• Display strategic leadership and drive high‑quality operational delivery.
