Job description

About the Role

Applications are invited for a research technician position in the laboratory of Dr Elena Torlai Triglia in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS) at QMUL. Our research goal is to causally connect DNA alterations with molecular and cell phenotypes during disease development to identify actionable targets for personalised therapies, through combination of interdisciplinary tools. Visit the lab website to find out more about the research interests, publications and collaborations: https://ettlab.science

This Research Technician role is funded for 1.5 years by the Academy of Medical Sciences via a Springboard Award. Your main responsibilities will include the molecular characterisation and perturbation of human cancer cell lines. You will train lab colleagues and students and support their experimental work. If desired and possible, there could be freedom to explore independent projects.

About You

You should have a relevant BSc/BA degree (MSc desirable), experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g. mouse/ human cell culture, drug response assays, cloning, CRISPR editing, ..) and an interest in understanding cancer development and progression at the molecular level. You should be able to plan experiments independently, follow research protocols, and maintain good records. You should be well-organised and have a proactive, self-motivated attitude. Moreover, you should be keen to support other team members.

The ETT lab is based at the Blizard Institute, and part of a collaborative hub of researchers. We are affiliated with the Centre for Molecular Cell Biology and the Centre for Evolutionary and Functional Genomics within SBBS. We are core members of the cross-faculty QMUL Centre for Epigenetics. Moreover, we are associated with the Centre for Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research, and with the Digital Environment Research Institute. You will be part of a collaborative team of researchers and students and will be able to develop new skills and mentor others.
