Job summary

The University of Manchester is seeking a Research Project Coordinator to support the YouChoose Study, coordinating data management, ethics approvals and governance within a NHS academic setting.

You will work with the Chief Investigator and Project Manager, liaising with NHS labs and university departments to ensure timely delivery, quality control and compliance with guidelines.

Qualifications

• Good 2:2 or above degree in biological or social science or equivalent research experience.
• Experience coordinating research projects or clinical trials in academic/NHS settings.
• Experience coordinating trials including governance and deadlines.
• Strong organization and workload management.
• Excellent oral and written communication across multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager in maintaining the Trial Master File and monitoring aspects of the project.
• Work with NHS cervical screening laboratories to ensure confidential and efficient transfer of linked clinical data.
• Ensure adherence to the protocol and regulatory guidelines with the research team.
• Monitor risks to delivery and adjust project plans to meet timelines and objectives.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and proactive Research Project Coordinator to work on the YouChoose Study. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a programme which will evaluate the NHS cervical screening programmes in England and Wales to determine if offering the choice of self- or clinician sampling is feasible, acceptable and improves user experience above the standard of care, effective at increasing screening participation, able to reduce health inequalities, effective for CIN2+ detection, and good value for money. YouChoose is sponsored by The University of Manchester.

The post holder should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should have some knowledge and an understanding of research governance processes within academic and/ or NHS settings and be able to manage busy workloads and prioritise to meet strict deadlines which will mean being flexible and responsive.

The post holder will support the delivery of the portfolio of the research group, as directed by the Chief Investigator and Project Manager. Responsibilities will be varied and will include support with project management activities including data acquisition and management, ethics and regulatory approvals, quality control, reporting and document management in line with Research Governance standards.

You will have experience of coordinating clinical trials within a clinical research environment, be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with good understanding of Good Clinical Practice and overarching regulatory guidelines.

The post holder will be based within the Division of Cancer Sciences in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at St Mary’s Hospital.

You will be responsible for:

• Assist the Project Manager as required in maintaining the Trial Master File and monitoring aspects of the project
• Work closely with the eight NHS cervical screening laboratories to ensure confidential and efficient transfer of linked clinical data
• Work closely with the research team to ensure adherence to the protocol and regulatory guidelines
• Discuss and monitor risks to delivery, implementing changes to the project plans as directed by the Project Manager, ensuring that specific timelines are met and delivering against the programme’s objectives
• Liaising with colleagues across University departments, other universities, and NHS organisations, facilitating effective communication and engagement with investigators and collaborators

About You

Essential Criteria

• Good (2.2 or above) biological science or social science degree or equivalent research experience
• Supporting and managing research projects or clinical trials preferably in an academic and/or NHS setting
• Study coordination of clinical trials including all aspects of research governance and delivery of research whilst working to set deadlines
• Excellent organisation, managing a varied workload
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrating ability to communicate effectively at all levels in a multi-disciplinary environment

Desirable Criteria

• Experience of the University of Manchester’s electronic ordering system (iProc) or a similar system
• Trained in GCP and with a good understanding of the Research Governance Framework and ethical guidelines for work with humans and/ or human tissue
• Experience of organising and minuting meetings
• Producing progress reports to funding bodies, research ethics committees, senior managers etc.
