Job description

We are looking for an Oncology Research Nurse to join our team based at Furness General Hospital.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Oncology research delivery team as a research nurse, supporting a wide range of studies from observational studies to phase 3 or 4 clinical trials.

This role is suitable for someone with nursing experience with our patient groups and an interest in Oncology studies.

This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) may consider job-sharing or flexible working for the right candidate(s). Applications for secondment are also welcome, provided your current line-manager agrees.

On appointment, a tailored induction and training program will be provided. The post may require working across different hospital sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate suitable studies.
2. Administer investigative medicines.
3. Collaborate with the team to deliver the wider portfolio of studies.
4. Assess and manage care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies, mainly in Oncology, with potential assistance in other specialties.
5. Recruit, educate, and monitor research participants; collect and document accurate data, including tissue and sample management.
6. Support various research clinics.
7. Process lab samples.
8. Conduct assessments according to study protocols.
9. Perform physical assessments.
10. Supervise and support junior staff.

Our operations span three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community health care facilities such as Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer comprehensive hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services.

WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions, outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, and surgical procedures.

Additional outpatient and diagnostic services are available across community facilities in Morecambe Bay.
