Job description

The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London, one of the World's leading universities. The Institute draws together over 400 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments to improve outcomes for cancer patients. In particular, it fosters links between basic cancer researchers across biomedicine, and with the clinical activities of our four partner hospital trusts, known as UCL Partners: University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as well as the London School of Pharmacy and Cancer Research UK.

About the role

The Research Finance Officer will be part of the Cancer Institute’s Research Finance Team, working together with the Senior Research Finance Officer (SRFO) and the Research Finance Manager (RFM), to provide an effective and pro-active service to Cancer Institute staff in accordance with strategic priorities and the University’s regulations, policies and procedures. The postholder will provide support to the Institute’s academic staff, supporting research grant applications, arranging the setup of successful awards, and assisting with the management of a diverse portfolio of research funding.

About you

We are seeking an individual with strong written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, including competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and strong numeracy, analysis, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage one’s workload under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines are also essential. Experience of working in a role that has included some finance-related responsibilities is desirable.
