Research Fellow, School of Electronics and Computer Science

Join to apply for the Research Fellow, School of Electronics and Computer Science role at University of Southampton.

Position Details

This is a full-time, 12-month position starting on 1 August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The role involves working on the EPSRC-funded ESPRESSO project, which focuses on decentralised algorithms, data structures, and search techniques for large-scale personal online datastores.

Responsibilities
  1. Research on distributed query processing and information retrieval for text and RDF files.
  2. Work with project partners and stakeholders to develop and evaluate systems and frameworks.
  3. Use benchmarks and synthetic datasets for experimentation in health and wellbeing domains.
  4. Administrative tasks related to project management and reporting.
Qualifications
  • PhD in computer science or equivalent experience in distributed database systems, information retrieval, computer networking, or semantic web.
  • Experience with Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies is essential.
  • Familiarity with decentralization approaches and testbed development is desirable.
  • Candidates nearing completion of a relevant PhD are encouraged to apply; the title of Research Fellow is awarded upon PhD completion.
