Job summary

The Medical Research Council Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MRC MBU) at the University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a Research Coordinator to join the Pro-MiT project team led by Professor Michal Minczuk.

Job description

The Medical Research Council Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MRC MBU), University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a Research Coordinator to join the ARIA-funded Programmable mitochondria (Pro-MiT) project team under the leadership of Professor Michal Minczuk.

A world-renowned centre for research, the MRC MBU (www.mrc-mbu.cam.ac.uk) is a vibrant community focused on the involvement of mitochondria and their dysfunction in an ever-increasing range of human diseases. From 2027, the ProMiT programme will transition with the MBU research activities into the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR, www.cimr.cam.ac.uk), remaining on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and becoming part of a broader interdisciplinary research environment.

The postholder will contribute to ProMiT, a five-year international, multi-institutional project funded through the ARIA Precision Mitochondria (aria.org.uk/opportunity-spaces/programmable-physiology/precision-mitochondria) initiative and aimed at developing and rigorously testing new technologies for the delivery and functional use of genetic material in mitochondria. The Research Coordinator will support the day-to-day operational delivery of the programme, acting as a central coordination point between the Project Lead, scientific workstreams, partner organisations, ARIA and University professional services. Responsibilities include maintaining project plans and milestones; coordinating quarterly reporting and Go/No-Go reviews; financial monitoring; partner communications; programme meetings and visits; and compliance with ARIA-University requirements.

The post holder will need to be a strong team player and effective communicator in order to work with a range of partner teams and external stakeholders. The nature of the role will require the post-holder to have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise for themselves and others.

Candidates should be educated to degree level / Level 6 vocational qualification or have an equivalent level of practical experience. Essential experience includes working in a project, programme or complex administrative role involving multiple stakeholders, workstreams and deadlines; maintaining project plans, milestones and progress information; and financial monitoring or budget administration. Strong organisational, communication and analytical skills, the ability to synthesise scientific or technical information, and confidence using Microsoft 365 and shared project-management systems are also required. Experience in a higher-education or research environment, supporting an externally funded international programme, or research-grant compliance would be desirable.
