Job description

Job Title: Research Associate

Pay Scale: Grade 7

Salary (£): £38,674 - £46,913 per annum

Location: MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine

Contract Type: Fixed-term

Hours: Full time

About the Role

The applicant will join a dynamic and successful team, i.e., the T-cell Biology Group, which is exploiting cell surface molecules for the development of novel immunotherapies in autoimmunity and cancer, established at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University. They will work as part of the research group, which brings together scientists with the objective of applying fundamental research in molecular immunology to the understanding and control, in therapeutic settings, of human immune responses, via the actions of cell surface molecules. The post-holder will have responsibility for the provision of research support for a large project whose focus is the downstream signalling effects of T-cell surface proteins, principally using imaging-based methods. Ideally the post-holder will bring specialist skills in the area of protein expression allowing the scope of the programme to be expanded. The post-holder will manage their own academic research and also assist with administrative activities that improve the effectiveness of the laboratory's day-to-day research. The post holder will also provide advice and guidance to research students where appropriate.

About You

The appointee will report to Dr Mafalda Santos, a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow and co-awardee on the Wellcome Trust grant supporting this post in the T-cell Biology Group (TCBG), and Prof Simon Davis (Head of the TCBG). Dr Santos and Prof Davis have made notable contributions to our understanding of cell surface molecules and their use for the development of novel immunotherapies in autoimmunity.
