The post holder has responsibility for the daily management of the department, which involves coordinating patient care, timely and appropriate interventions, and deployment of staff to provide a high standard of nursing care to all RDU patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Has continuing first line management responsibility for a team of nursing and support staff, managing sickness and absence, and ensuring team members have identified development needs and a development plan.
- Provides a clinical nursing service, demonstrating through practice the desired model of care for all grades of nursing staff. As a senior clinical nurse, the team leader assesses care needs, develops, implements, and evaluates family-centred programmes of care. They are accountable for the quality of care delivered within the department environment by the nursing team.
- Works collaboratively with the Matron and Head of Nursing to develop services and implements the nursing strategy for RDU.
- Coordinates and ensures timely responses to clinical incidents and complaints.
- Acts as a role model and supports junior staff, providing expert clinical advice on issues such as child protection concerns and deteriorating patients.
- Monitors standards of care, leads improvements, and encourages a culture of shared governance through benchmarking, audit, and research.
- Promotes a culture of incident reporting in line with Trust guidelines.
- Plans and implements care, supervising junior staff, and developing standards of care and practice within the department.
- Maximizes the use of clinical resources, monitors patient flow, admissions, and discharges, and initiates improvements.
- Ensures effective communication within the team and department, disseminates team briefings and relevant information.
- Liaises with multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care, participates in case conferences, and ensures effective communication on child protection issues.
- Complies with the Trust's policies on DBS disclosures and promotes diversity and anti-discrimination policies.
