The post holder has responsibility for the daily management of the department, which involves coordinating patient care, timely and appropriate interventions, and deployment of staff to provide a high standard of nursing care to all RDU patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Has continuing first line management responsibility for a team of nursing and support staff, managing sickness and absence, and ensuring team members have identified development needs and a development plan.
- Provides a clinical nursing service, demonstrating through practice the desired model of care for all grades of nursing staff. As a senior clinical nurse, responsible for assessment of care needs, development, implementation, and evaluation of family-centered care programs, and is accountable for the quality of care within the department.
- Works collaboratively with the Matron and Head of Nursing to develop services and implements the nursing strategy for RDU.
- Coordinates and ensures timely responses to clinical incidents and complaints.
- Acts as a role model and supports junior staff, providing expert clinical advice on issues such as child protection and deteriorating patients.
- Monitors standards of care, leads quality improvement initiatives, and promotes a culture of shared governance, benchmarking, audit, and research.
- Encourages a culture of incident reporting in line with Trust guidelines.
- Plans and implements care, supervising junior staff, and developing standards of care and practice within the department.
- Maximizes the use of clinical resources, monitors patient flow, and initiates improvements in admission and discharge processes.
- Ensures effective communication within the team and department, disseminates team briefings, and liaises with multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care, including child protection concerns.
- Complies with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Code of Practice and promotes diversity and equality within the organization.
- Supports the use of accurate and timely data for operational decision-making and is committed to safeguarding children and young people.
- Adheres to all Trust policies, attends mandatory training, and is accountable for data entered into records and systems.
