Job summary

Canal & River Trust in the Midlands is seeking an Area Planner to manage a varied workload of planning consultations and policy matters across the West Midlands network. The role is home-based with Hub access in Hatton (Warwick) or central Birmingham, and travel to meetings and sites will be required.

You will work with Local Planning Authorities, Parish Councils and stakeholders, negotiating conditions and representing the Trust at appeals while developing early planning policy relationships to

Qualifications

• Qualified planning professional with significant experience in development management and planning policy.
• Chartered Town Planner with relevant Masters, Diploma or Degree.
• Knowledge of TCPA &/or DCO regimes incl. appeals & enforcement in England and Wales.
• Sound knowledge of planning, heritage and environmental law.
• Understanding of Government reforms & policy objectives in England & Wales.
• Appeal experience incl. public inquiries as expert witness.
• Knowledge of the NPF, sub-regional plan, local & neighbourhood plan processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage a high-volume workload of planning consultations and policy matters.
• Engage with Local Planning Authorities, Parish Councils, interested parties and communities.
• Negotiate conditions and obligations and represent the Trust in appeals.
• Travel to site visits, meetings or to other Trust offices as required.
