Job summary

MRJ Recruitment is seeking a Technical Architect for a major eCommerce project with UK remote work. The role focuses on translating high-level designs into scalable, low-level architectures across domains, while collaborating with Solution Architects, Engineering Principals, Developers, Product Owners and SREs.

You will define API contracts, lead architectural governance, and drive cost-effective cloud strategies.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering technical solutions in complex environments.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS and serverless architectures.
• Proven ability to design RESTful APIs and modern API design.
• Proficient in object-oriented design and modern coding practices.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and messaging architectures.
• Track record of identifying technical debt and driving improvements.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
• Understanding of DevOps principles and modern engineering practices.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills, able to simplify complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed low-level designs.
• Define and publish clear API contracts.
• Ensure designs meet architectural standards and governance requirements.
• Translate solution designs into practical engineering work.
• Identify technical debt and help teams prioritise improvements.
• Lead refactoring and technical improvement initiatives.
• Support investigation and resolution of complex incidents.
• Improve technical documentation and standards across product areas.
• Assess new technologies and lead proof-of-concepts.
• Review third-party designs for alignment with strategy.
• Manage and optimise cloud and infrastructure costs.
• Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to align on best practice.
• Advise stakeholders, assess risks and support decision making.
