Job summary

Albion Rye Associates Ltd is seeking a Scientific Director to shape scientific strategy and lead senior medical affairs programmes. You will advise clients, oversee publications, and guide a growing team, taking ownership of strategic relationships and new business opportunities.

The role combines scientific excellence with client leadership, budget awareness and a clear pathway to senior agency leadership, all within a fully remote UK setting with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Degree in medicine, biomedical science or related field; PhD/MD preferred.
• Significant experience in a medical communications agency.
• Strong experience in medical affairs and/or scientific communications.
• Proven ability to develop and lead scientific strategy rather than simply execute deliverables.
• Experience managing senior client relationships and leading strategic discussions.
• Experience contributing to pitches, proposals and business development.
• Strong commercial awareness including scopes, budgets and resourcing.
• Excellent understanding of ABPI, EFPIA and GPP codes.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or managing scientific/medical writing teams.
• Excellent communication skills and credibility with senior clients and scientific experts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the scientific and strategic direction of key client accounts and programmes.
• Develop and oversee scientific communication, publication and medical education strategies.
• Act as a senior scientific adviser to clients with data-driven recommendations.
• Lead senior client meetings, advisory boards, symposia and strategic planning sessions.
• Ensure alignment of scientific and account strategies with commercial objectives.
• Provide scientific leadership across medical affairs and communications programmes.
• Maintain oversight of scientific quality, accuracy, compliance and relevance.
• Identify opportunities for organic account growth and contribute to new business development.
• Lead or support pitches and proposals, shaping the scientific narrative for clients.
• Develop project scopes, budgets and resource requirements with Client Services and Finance.
• Build strong relationships with senior clients, KOLs and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop scientific team members and raise standards across the agency.
• Contribute to wider strategic direction, culture and growth of the business.
