Job summary

The Open University is seeking an experienced external communications professional to join the External Communications team in Milton Keynes. This role focuses on crafting narratives and key messages for a wide range of OU research stories and delivering high impact communications across multiple channels, with hybrid working options.

You will collaborate with the Research Communications Manager, faculties and business units to create compelling content, support university campaigns, and ensure

Qualifications

• Experience of external communications and storytelling across multiple channels.
• Experience delivering integrated campaigns across paid, earned, shared and owned channels.
• Ability to extract information and craft powerful narratives with minimal senior input.
• Strong spoken and written interpersonal skills with tight deadlines.
• Ability to navigate a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders.
• Understanding of how research can be promoted to key audiences.
• Experience helping academics explain research to broad audiences.

Responsibilities

• Produce high‑impact research communications with stakeholders across faculties and units.
• Draft copy and keep OU Research website up to date with research news.
• Lead on OU research video/podcast series and LinkedIn newsletters.
• Support events and campaigns, ensuring research is central to outreach.
