Job summary

Balfour Beatty Living Places is seeking a Street Lighting Design Engineer for Buckinghamshire. You will develop lighting designs from concept to construction support, ensuring safe, sustainable and high-quality highway electrical solutions across the county.

You will work with authorities and stakeholders to deliver designs that meet industry standards, perform lighting calculations, prepare reports, and specify equipment while maintaining CDM compliance and project delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Experience within street lighting or highway electrical design.
• Knowledge of BS 5489, BS EN 13201 and BS 7671.
• Ability to produce lighting calculations, technical reports, specifications and engineering drawings.
• Experience using lighting design and CAD software.
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and designer responsibilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop street lighting and highway electrical designs for capital and maintenance schemes.
• Produce lighting calculations, technical reports, specifications and equipment schedules.
• Undertake site visits and desktop assessments to verify existing infrastructure and project requirements.
• Design and specify street lighting columns, luminaires, cabling, feeder pillars and control systems.
• Ensure designs comply with BS 5489, BS EN 13201 and BS 7671.
• Prepare design risk assessments and support CDM compliance.
• Provide technical support to project teams throughout delivery.
