Job summary

Public Library of Science (PLOS) is seeking a Publishing Operations Vendor Manager to oversee a diverse, global vendor network that supports its publishing lifecycle. The role emphasizes cross-functional leadership, procurement, contract management, and performance auditing to ensure quality, scalability and resilience across workflows.

The role involves strategic vendor relationships, RFPs, onboarding, and KPI/SLAs.

Qualifications

• Experience in sourcing vendors and managing RFI/RFP processes and onboarding.
• Experience building long-term relationships with editorial and publishing service vendors.
• Experience drafting and enforcing SLAs, auditing vendor KPIs and managing budgets.
• Experience managing multiple vendors across global time zones and high-volume journals.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of vendor use in end-to-end workflows to ensure efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.
• Manage contract renewals; primary contact for suppliers; track end dates and renewals; define SLAs.
• Manage RFP processes; coordinate pricing negotiations and documentation.
• Vendor onboarding; establish onboarding best practices and templates.
• Establish KPIs, SLAs, auditing framework; conduct QA audits and reporting.
