Job summary

PLOS is a nonprofit organization on a mission to drive open science forward with measurable, meaningful change in research publishing, policy, and practice. The Associate Editor oversees the editorial process for manuscripts submitted to PLOS journals.

This role will require prior research experience, critical evaluation skills, and internal guidelines to make nuanced editorial decisions. This fully remote, UK-based role involves collaborating with division colleagues and other teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree required; PhD or MD preferred.
• Experience in a research environment, publishing, or related industry.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines with high quality and accuracy.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as escalation point for complex editorial queries.
• Support editorial teams to uphold scientific rigor and integrity.
• Evaluate submissions based on reviewers’ comments.
• Participate in developing editorial policy and raise journal visibility.
• Build relationships with the academic community.
• Demonstrate adaptability and a growth mindset.
