Job summary

Service Care Solutions is recruiting for a Principal Accountant on behalf of a Warwickshire local authority. The role is a two-week contract with possible extensions, offering a competitive day rate and continuity in public sector financial management.

The post requires CCAB qualification with 3+ years in public sector, strong budgeting, reporting, and audit liaison experience, plus capability to advise senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• CCAB qualified accountant with 3+ years’ post-qualification public sector experience, or senior experience with Senior AAT or part-qualified CCAB status.
• Strong understanding of local government finance, accounting standards, and statutory Codes of Practice.
• Proven experience working with financial management systems and complex spreadsheets.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging with senior officers, members, and external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of revenue and capital budgets.
• Ensure statutory compliance and adherence to council financial policies.
• Manage the annual Statement of Accounts process, including statutory reporting and external audit liaison.
• Provide high-level financial advice to senior officers and elected members.
• Lead on specialist financial areas such as Treasury Management, Housing, or strategic projects.
• Use financial management systems and complex spreadsheets with precision and timeliness.
• Support effective financial decision-making throughout the organisation.
